How to Connect
Welcome to MegaForge. Follow the steps below to join the Warsong realm.
Quick Start (TL;DR)
- Get a clean, unmodified World of Warcraft: Wrath of the Lich King 3.3.5a (build 12340) client.
- Open
realmlist.wtfand set it to:set realmlist play.megaforge.net - Create your game account on our website, then launch the game using
WoW.exe(not the Launcher). - Log in with your game account and select the Warsong realm.
Step 1: Get a Clean 3.3.5a Client (Legal & Safe)
We do not host or distribute game clients. Please use one of the following lawful options:
- Use your own original Wrath of the Lich King installation or backups you already possess.
- If you have old installation media or an older PC with WotLK installed, copy that installation to your current machine.
- Do not use repacks that include custom patches or modified executables. A clean, unmodified 3.3.5a client avoids most issues.
- Tip: The version should display as 3.3.5 (12340) on the game’s login screen or in the executable’s properties. If it’s anything else, it is not compatible.
Step 2: Point Your Client to MegaForge
Locate and edit realmlist.wtf in your client folder.
Windows (typical paths):
World of Warcraft\Data\enUS\realmlist.wtf
World of Warcraft\Data\enGB\realmlist.wtf
macOS (legacy clients only):
World of Warcraft/Data/enUS/realmlist.wtf
World of Warcraft/Data/enGB/realmlist.wtf
Open realmlist.wtf with a text editor and replace all lines with:
set realmlist play.megaforge.net
Save the file. Optional but recommended: set the file to read-only so it doesn’t get changed accidentally.
Always start the game with WoW.exe. Do not use the retail Launcher, as it can overwrite your settings.
Step 3: Create Your Game Account
Register a game account on megaforge.net.
Keep your email secure and accessible for account recovery.
Step 4: Log In
- Run
WoW.exe. - Use your game account credentials to log in.
- Select the Warsong realm and play.
Important Notes for a Smooth Experience
- We do not require any clientside patches. Remove any custom patch files from your Data folder if you have them.
- A clean, unmodified 3.3.5a client is required for support. Modified or “HD” patch clients can cause issues that we cannot diagnose or support.
- If your client language is not English, your
realmlist.wtfwill be in the matching locale folder, for exampleenGBorenUS.
Troubleshooting
“Unable to validate game version” or instant disconnects
Your client likely isn’t 3.3.5a (12340), or it contains custom patches. Use a clean client.
Realmlist keeps changing back
You may have launched the retail Launcher. Re-edit realmlist.wtf and set it to read-only, then always start with WoW.exe.
Can’t find realmlist.wtf
Check both Data\enUS and Data\enGB. Create the file if it is missing and add the single line shown above.
Crashes or odd graphical issues
Remove custom MPQs and third-party graphics packs. Stick to a clean client.
macOS users
Legacy macOS clients are 32-bit and may not run on modern macOS. Consider using a Windows PC, Boot Camp on older Intel Macs, or a Windows VM with proper 3D support.
